What always baffles me is how the band members don't seem overly impressed by what they did in '77, Bob always talks up '89-90, Phil seems to consider it the year he started hitting the Heineken too hard & I haven't ever really seen or heard any interviews from Jerry on what he thought of it. To the rest of us--including Lavala and Lemieux as well as fans--it's obviously held in the highest esteem

Jerry never struck me as somebody who dwelled on the past,
It was his theory on once the band was done playing it that the tapers were free to have it -that allowed so much access to the band's live music.
It is just strange to see how many rock critics there are now in the Grateful Dead orbit. There is no other band that even remotely holds my interest like the GD.
When i was listening to the music in real time 84-93 there were so many holes in my tape collection. Now I can literally listen to pristine Sound Boards from every year/ month/ tour that I have a notion to enjoy.
I am not sure there is much else in my life that has turned out as well. I certainly never dreamed I would be holding Aces back to Back in regards to this Vault.
(besides Spiritually but that is a case of i believe/ help my unbelief and of course Marriage and Children)

Anyway, I do enjoy 77 and there is still much of the year that I want to listen in with an open heart.
I do know that Englishtown 77 was my go to tape for this year and on some level I measure for/against much of 77 by that show,
